Sitar Lesson 1

Holding Sitar and Plucking wire

1. Hold Sitar by right elbow. Press enough so that left hand is free to move up and down
2. Wear Mijrab (Plucker) in right index finger
3. Place left thumb behind neck & Press exreme right wire on fret (just behind), to make metal to metal contact
4. Place right thumb at the joint & Pluck wire with mijrab towards you (Da) and away from you (Ra)

1. Sitar is held by right elbow on the tumba in such a way that left hand is free to move (photo 1).

2. Wear a mijrab (Plucker) in right index finger (photo 2).

3. Place your left thumb behind neck and left index finger on exreme right wire just behind any fret. Press wire on the fret so that there is metal to metal contact of wire and fret (photo 3).

4. Right thumb is placed at the joint of long neck and tumba (photo 4).

5. Pluck extreme right wire towards you (called - Da) and away from you (called - Ra) (photo 4).
