Dr Faqir Chand Shukla
 
Dr Faqir Chand Shukla , a retired professor. of food technology from Punjab Agricultue University, Ludhiana  is a celebrated writer 
as well as a versatile personality. He is a scientist, a teacher, science and creative writer and an actor all rolled in one. 
He has authored 30 books on foods and nutrition, short stories, plays and children literature. In addition he has written more 
than 400 articles on food and nutrition in english, hindi and punjabi.
 
He has received National awards for his books on nutrition - ‘Khuraak atey sehat’, ’Sasta Bhojan Vadhiya Bhojan’. 
He was also awarded the National award for children literature for his book ‘Sachchi Khushi’. 
He also received Mohan Rakesh award for his book of plays ‘Jot se Jot Jaley’ and also received the best book award for his 
anthology of short stories ‘Nayi Subah’.
 
Dr Shukla is the pride recipient of Millennium award for his contribution to hindi literature. 
He was also awarded the prestigious Shiromani award for popularization of science. 
The award carries a cash prize of Rs One Lakh and a gold medal.He was also conferreed the honour of ‘Punjab Rattan.’
 
He has also acted in numerous plays. He has written good no. of plays on scientific themes of general interest ranging 
from environment awareness to AIDS ,and also on food and nutrition. Many of his plays have been telecast by Doordarshan. 
Many of these plays attempt to inculcate scientific temper in youth by dispelling superstitious belief and misconceptions.
 
His recently published book ‘Nirog rahne ke liye aahar’ i.e. diet for good health has been widely
acclaimed by the masses and have also received rave reviews in the media.

A good no. of my stories have been translated and Published in Kannada, Telugu, Sindhi, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam etc.
 
I got the first prize for my stories ‘Nakel’,and ‘Vishpaan’ in the All India Short story writing
competitions.
 
My story ‘Nakel’ was adjudged the best story in the All India all languages short story competition held by Vipula-a leading Telugu magazine.
 
Got the first prize for the play Jot se jot jaley in the all india comopetition.
 
A good no. of my plays have been telecast from Doordarshan
 
I myself have acted in a no. of plays. I have written a good no. of plays on themes of general interest ranging from environment awareness 
to AIDS and these plays have been telecast besides being staged a no. of times .
 
My source of  inspiration  was my wife Sneh Prabha whom the cruel hands of destiny have snatched from me in 1999 as she lost her 
battle with cancer.
